AgriBase™
First developed in 1993 for the management of properties susceptible to foot and mouth disease, the AgriBase™ database holds information on all types of rural properties such as farms, vineyards, orchards, forests, and small holdings and includes contact details for the individuals that own and manage them.
AgriBase™ has grown over the years to provide a platform for traceability, biosecurity and emergency management to support national and regional policies and programmes that benefit rural New Zealand and primary sector industries.
Rural Database enhanced by geospatial technology
AgriBase™ is a voluntary system and AsureQuality is continually in touch with rural properties in order to collect and update information. In the event of a rural, regional or national emergency AgriBase™can be quickly populated with any additional data necessary to control and manage the situation. Because AgriBase™ is fully linked with geospatial systems, real-time analysis and problem solving can be easily and expertly handled.
Geospatial technology allows us to render information from AgriBase™(such as property location, size, management, operations, land use, stock numbers, homestead location, farm gate points and address points) into virtual features for display and geospatial analysis.
Value to New Zealand:
Critical in biosecurity incursions
AgriBase™ is unequalled in its ability to provide information during biosecurity emergencies. AsureQuality is able to form an instantaneous picture of the scope and scale of a problem, as well as being an invaluable resource for surveillance patrols, control and eradication programmes, statistical analysis and computer modelling.
AgriBase™ has been proven to support effective and rapid response to devastating natural disasters. It has allowed emergency coordinators to immediately identify where a rural property is, who lives and works there and the best way to contact them, including mobile phone numbers when telephone lines have been down.
During massive snowfall and flooding events that effectively trapped rural residents in their own homes, AsureQuality analysts were able to provide maps and livestock details from AgriBase™ to estimate feed budgets and locate feed sources for affected farmers. AgriBase™has also been used post-disaster to contact rural residents, ascertain their immediate needs, and assist the government with developing recovery and assistance policies.
Crucial in land use analysis
Effective infrastructure planning and policy formulation requires accurate and detailed information on land use and changes, economic activities and the natural environment. AAgriBase™ is the only national dataset available that can provide a complete picture of land use and land use change patterns across New Zealand from the early 1990s to present day.
Integral in food safety
Discerning consumers the world over are demanding traceable proof of product origin. The AgriBase™ Farm ID is fast becoming a standard reference in New Zealand primary sectors and can be used to trace the origin of products back to the primary source.
Access to data on primary production enables authorities to evaluate the impact of commercial activities on rural land and prepare policies that prevent the passage of undesirable elements into the food supply chain.
Vital in civil defence
If you own rural land or operate a commercial farm, vineyard, orchard or forest, please ensure you are registered with AgriBaseTM to be part of these vital programmes.
