Traceability for our Customers
The installation of the Kiestra automated microbiology testing system enables us to meet and exceed our customer’s expectations of full traceability and visibility throughout the entire testing process.
How does the automated system work?
The automated system is powered by 23 individual PC's using customised software and boasts an error rate of less than 1 in a billion for some devices.
Every action throughout the process is precisely logged, from the weight of the sample and the media batch used, through to instrument numbers and the analysts performing the test - providing a comprehensive audit trail for each sample dish.
The sample processing system takes orders from the sample inoculation benches, processes the request for different dish types, and labels each dish appropriately. With over 1000 test type variations in our database having this information on each dish is essential.
After sample inoculation, the dishes are sent to the automatic media-pouring unit, capable of producing up to 1400 dishes per hour. The appropriate molten media is poured aseptically into each dish as required, then cools on the cooling belt before being sorted according to incubation temperature.
It then delivers the dishes to the correct ergonomically designed and fully adjustable workbench that placed the order.
The consistency able to be delivered by this system means effectively every sample will be handled the same way, no matter which analyst is involved in the testing process.
Each petri dish is scanned in and out of the incubators. We are able to determine the incubator, the shelf, the stack and position in that stack for any given plate. This better equips us to provide our customers interim results for urgent analysis.
At the end of the specified incubation period every plate is digitally photographed to create a permanent visual record of individual test results.
