Managing the High Risk Site Surveillance Programme for MAF Biosecurity New Zealand
We have managed the High Risk Site Surveillance for the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) since the programme's inception in 2004.
High Risk Forest biosecurity Areas Targeted by the Programme
The original programme was targeted at surveying transects (survey plots) located in High Risk Areas. The High Risk Areas were identified by grouping logical areas containing large cargo movements and transitional facilities. The programme was extended in 2008/2009 to include 'first night camp sites', amenities and carparks.
Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience in forest biosecurity
We have extensive experience in mapping and GIS applications which enables us to provide rapid identification of at risk areas to be surveyed. Data captured by the field surveyors on handheld computers continually updates the 'back-end' GIS with verified transect locations and survey species findings, ensuring all information is accurate and current.
