Testing Environmental Samples for Agrichemical Residues
Chemicals are widely used in the agricultural and horticultural sectors to protect crops and foodstuffs from pests and diseases and to promote production. In our Wellington Laboratory we test all environmental sample types - airs (ambient and emissions), waters, soils, sediments, biosolids, vegetation and wildlife (animals, birds, fish, shellfish and marine mammals) - and offer a range of tests at screen, trace and ultra-trace level detection limits.
Asurequality capability
In total we can test in the order of 600 different agrichemical residues. Our range of tests include those that target particular residues and their metabolites, to multiresidue methods that target many hundreds of residues in a single test.
Scope of testing
The groups of agrichemical residues we can test for include the common groups such as:
- Organochlorines
- Organophosphates
- Organonitrogens
- Herbicides including glyphosate, paraquat and diquat
- Acid herbicides
- Testing techniques
Testing techniques:
- Gas chromatography (GC)
- High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
- Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)
- Gas chromatography - high resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS)
- Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
- Elemental analyses (ICP-MS and ICP-OES)
Using methods such as, or based on, those published by the USEPA and APHA, in international journals, and using in-house developed methods.
