What is the Tesco Nurture Scheme Standard and why do you need it?
Tesco's Nurture accreditation scheme is dedicated to ensuring all the fruit and vegetables supplied to their stores are grown to environmental and responsible standards.
Growers adhering to the Nurture standard are audited annually and must demonstrate that they:
- Can trace all products back to source
- Grow and select the highest quality fruit and vegetables available
- Are committed to protecting wildlife and landscape conservation
- Encourage sustainable farming practices, such as use of energy, natural resources and recycling
- Rationalise the use of artificial pesticides, fertilisers and manures
- Ensure all their staff are treated in a responsible manner.

Tesco Nurture Scheme Version 2007
We audit Growers wishing to meet the standards set by the scheme annually. If you want to supply Tesco you will have to demonstrate that you operate in the manner which meets these requirements. We can audit to the TESCO Nurture standard in conjunction with a GLOBALGAP inspection.
| Step 1 : Contact your marketing organisation for registration |
Registration is carried out. through your Marketing Organisation who liase with NSF-CMi (NSF-Cmi operate as the registrars for the Tesco Nurture scheme on behalf of Tesco and manage the grower registration and certification). |
| Step 2 : Complete an audit request form |
An Audit Request form needs to be completed. You can get this form from your exporter. Once completed return this to AsureQuality. Your exporter will then provide you with a copy of the TESCO Nurture Standard guidelines. |
| Step 3 : Audit authorisation |
AsureQuality will send your audit request to NSF-Cmi and upon receipt of an audit allocation we will contact you to book in your audit. |
| Step 4 : On-site assessment / audit |
| An on-site audit of your operation will be carried out to ensure that every aspect of your operation complies with the TESCO Nurture Standard. |
| Step 5 : Submission of audit findings |
| Following the on-site audit, the TESCO Nurture auditor will complete a site report on the findings of the audit. The report will include any non-conformance against the TESCO Nurture standard that need to be closed out prior to certification being offered. |
| Step 5 : Response to any audit findings / non-conformances |
| The TESCO Nurture auditor will agree with you on how to resolve any non-conformances and set the closing due date. |
| Step 6 : TESCO Nurture Certification status issued |
| When all non-conformances are closed out, AsureQuality will submit your report to NSF-Cmi. They will then issue a certificate. |
| Annual review |
| An annual audit is required to renew your certification status each year. |
